The Great Directors

I’m beginning to think I should just work for Turner Classic Movie’s (TCM) PR department, but, as a cinephile, it’s hard not to sing the praises of this wonderful network. TCM will once again deliver countless hours of pure movie delight in June by celebrating the work of more than 50 top directors from around the world.

TCM’s month-long “Great Directors” festival will showcase the work of two directors each day, including pictures from classic filmmakers like Fritz Lang to modern directors like Woody Allen. This 30-day festival offers a dream line-up of some of the silver screen’s greatest films, while also screening some lesser known movies from the featured directors.

Of those masters behind the camera, I’m particularly looking forward to the days devoted to:

Needless to say, my television will be permanently set to TCM in June. To experience some tour de force films and discover lesser known gems, check out the TCM schedule for specific directors and films: http://tinyurl.com/mfpqee.

Be sure to tune back in to TCM in August for their annual “Summer Under the Stars” festival featuring the work of different acting legends each day.

  1. I can't believe I didn't recognize Blake at first. Do you suppose I need new glasses? Sounds like a fantastic month at TCM... You know what I'll be doing on June 19th.

  2. Blake was so young and clean-cut then! This picture was taken while filming "The Great Race" (1965), part of which (a little trivia for you) was shot in Salzburg, Austria *around* the same time as another big Hollywood production starring Mr. Edwards' future wife! ;)

  3. I keep thinking "What day is it today? Is it Blackie's day yet?" Not even close!

I just posted a post for you. Look for "Attention, all you movie buffs out there"... I know you'll do well!

  4. Me again! Please go to my "Friends list" and click on the link to the blog entitled "Drop it like a Trig Class" and look for her post "I got nothin' " in which she says that of Blake's films, "The Great Race" is her fave.

  5. "The Great Race" is hilarious. Some of Jack Lemmon's greatest comedic moments.

I wish I could take off of work for the entire month of June to to tune into TCM.

I'll let you know how I did on the Empire puzzle...

  6. Hi, A.C. -- I know you've got a lot on your mind right now ... {{{hugs}}} ... I just wondered, I just read your comment on my post about Emma's interview, and wondered what movie that wonderful quote about the books one reads as a child is from. (And that sentence doesn't sound grammatically correct no matter what I try to do with it.)
